Privacy policy
Last updated 7 October 2026.
This policy explains what information is collected when you read Stories of Record (storiesofrecord.com), who collects it, and what you can do about it. "We" means the operator of Stories of Record, based in Pakistan. You can reach us at [email protected].
The short version
- You do not need an account to read anything on the site, and we do not ask for your name or email.
- Our hosting provider keeps standard technical logs to run and protect the site.
- We plan to show advertising from Google. Google and its partners use cookies to show and measure ads. Where the law requires it, they only do so with your consent.
- We do not sell your personal information for money, and we do not build reader profiles of our own.
Information collected when you visit
Hosting and security
The site is hosted by Cloudflare. When you load a page, Cloudflare processes your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time, in order to deliver the page, keep it fast and block abusive traffic. Cloudflare may set a short-lived security cookie for this purpose. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Messages you send us
If you email us, we keep your email address and message so we can reply and, for corrections, keep a record of what was changed. We do not add you to any mailing list.
Advertising
When advertising is switched on, we will use Google AdSense to show ads. In that case:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info or, in Europe, www.youronlinechoices.eu.
- If you opt out, or do not consent, you may still see ads, but they will not be personalised to you.
Google explains how it uses information from sites like ours in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and page views. It does not use cookies or local storage and does not track you across sites. When a page loads, a small script reports the page address, the referring site, your browser, device type and country (worked out from your IP address; Cloudflare says it does not use IP addresses to track visitors) and page load timings. We only see totals. We also use Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, which tell us which searches show our pages; they collect nothing from your visit to our site. If we add any other analytics service, we will name it here and in our cookie notice before it goes live.
Consent in the UK, EEA and Switzerland
If you visit from the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, ads are only personalised, and non-essential cookies only set, after you give consent in the consent message shown on the site. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time from the same message. Strictly necessary cookies, such as the security cookie above, do not need consent.
Legal bases (UK and EU readers)
- Delivering and securing the site: our legitimate interest in running a working, safe website.
- Personalised advertising and advertising cookies: your consent.
- Replying to messages and keeping correction records: our legitimate interest in answering readers and keeping an accurate public record.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict how it is used, and to complain to your data protection authority. Email us with the subject "Privacy" and we will reply within one month.
California residents
Under the CCPA, as amended by the CPRA, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of its "sale" or "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising. Advertising cookies set by Google and its partners may count as "sharing" under California law. To opt out, use Google's Ads Settings or turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser, or email us. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
Children
The site is a general news resource and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
How long we keep information
Emails are kept for as long as needed to deal with them, and correction records are kept permanently as part of each story's public history. Hosting logs are kept by Cloudflare under its own retention rules. Advertising cookies last as long as the advertising provider sets them; you can delete them in your browser at any time.
